She had, by the vet's estimates, lived almost eighteen years, which I realize is much longer than most people have with their pets. But I can tell you that eighteen years is still not enough. No matter how long we have with our best friends it is never enough. And now it is over. Two weeks ago I stopped seeing the smile in her eyes and I knew she was trying to tell me she was ready to move on. I battled with the decision for several days, praying for her to smile at me again, praying for more time. But I knew in my heart I had to help her. So we went to the vet's, Tim by my side. And we held her and hugged her and we said goodbye together. I have said many times before, that aside from our children, Shelby is the greatest gift Tim ever gave me. And I am forever grateful.
