It was a very dark week in our house to be sure. Tim and I had a heart-to-heart conversation about her one night. After spending more than $3000 on the animals that had been left behind by the previous owners of our newly acquired house, plus the money we spent on the move and on Shelby and her puppies, money was tight. We didn't know how long Sarah would require care either. Tim said with a heavy heart, "We really can't afford another dog right now," and as much as I hated to admit it, I had to agree with him. But I told him I couldn't take her back to Save-A-Pet and I asked if he could do it for me ( I just couldn't look her in the eyes as we left her there.) Tim agreed to do it. So on Friday of that week, he left with Shelby, sitting on the front seat next to him, beaming. Both Tim and I were in tears. Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning for me were spent going through the motions of living and crying. I was worried sick about Shelby, afraid to call for an update, and just missing her terribly. Tim was more quiet than usual. For anyone who knows Tim, you know how quiet that is! We weren't the same without Shelby. It was the most awful feeling of loss.
